Brisbane City Council acknowledges this Country and its Traditional Custodians. We pay our respects to the Elders, those who have passed into the Dreaming; those here today; those of tomorrow.
As part of our commitment to maintaining and improving our active transport network, we are piloting a new way of installing dedicated bike lanes along this section of Junction Road.
All people riding and driving must give way and travel safely in line with the Queensland road rules when moving along this section of Junction Road.

Brisbane City Council is pleased to announce that the road resurfacing works and bike lanes upgrade on Junction Road, between Baringa Street and Barwon Street in Morningside are now complete.
We listened to community feedback about the need to enhance the road space and upgrade the bike lanes along Junction Road and have designed improvements within the existing road reserve to improve safety and increase connectivity.
Dedicated bike lanes with buffer zones improve safety for active transport users and encourage even more Brisbane residents, visitors and commuters to use sustainable modes of transport, helping to reduce the need for car-based travel.

We resurfaced the road and installed new dedicated bike lanes with painted buffer zones and low-profile separators on either side of the road.
The new dedicated bike lanes has also improved the connection to existing bike lanes on Wynnum Road and the future Colmslie Precinct, ensuring we make Brisbane's extensive bikeway network safer and more accessible.
Parking along Junction Road will remain next to the kerb and will function as normal. To access the parking lane, you can check for riders and drive over the low-profile separators to park as normal. This will operate much like the previous arrangement, where people parking need to look out for riders.
JCTcontract meaning
Junction Road is a secondary cycle route that links two primary cycle routes on Lytton Road and Wynnum Road. As a key connection to the CBD from Cannon Hill, Murarrie, Hemmant, Lytton, the Gateway Bikeway, and a connection to the future Colmslie precinct, these works will ensure the safety of active transport users and improve our overall transport network.
The upgraded bike lanes are single direction on both sides of the road and sit between the parking lane and the traffic lane. The bike lanes have a buffer zone on both sides to create separation between parked cars and traffic on Junction Road and improve driver awareness of bike riders.
This new approach means when eligible roads are resurfaced across our city, active transport improvements can be retrofitted in a similar way.
Installing dedicated bike lanes with buffer zones and low-profile separators along this section of Junction Road provides a safer, more efficient, and sustainable way for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to choose active transport more often as part of a healthy and active lifestyle.
Residents can continue to place their refuse bins in the road reserve/nature strip next to the kerb on the designated collection days.
