For maximum visibility and clarity, we recommend that for a sign to be visible at up to 12m, its dimensions must be 300mm x 250mm. This extends up to a viewing distance of 27m, where the dimensions of the same sign would have to be widened to 600mm x 450mm*.

The ‘right size’ for your sign will depend on what distance it needs to be visible from. If your sign uses a combination of words and pictograms, we recommend measuring the furthest distance these symbols will need to be visible from. According to AS 1319-1994, a compliant sign must be designed with these considerations: pictograms are at least 15mm per metre of viewing distance, while capital and lowercase letters should be 5mm and 4mm per metre of viewing distance, respectively.
