Just last week, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) introduced new preventative measures aimed at curbing wrong-way driving. Despite these efforts, the latest crash has heightened concerns among officials, who continue searching for ways to improve driver safety.

“These incidents make up only 0.01 percent of crashes on our highways. However, they’re 40 times more likely to be deadly when they do occur,” he said.

For now, the investigation is ongoing as authorities work to determine how the driver ended up in the wrong lane and if additional safety measures could help prevent similar incidents.

In this latest incident, Cleveland Police responded to a head-on collision on I-480 near State Road shortly after midnight on Monday. The crash involved a 25-year-old woman, who is now in critical condition, and an 85-year-old woman, who is hospitalized in serious condition.
