These signs provide unique facts and historical information about the tramway operation and feature artwork from the talented students at Seven Hills State School.

Opening on May 25, 1912, the private rail built by the then Belmont Shire Council ran through Carina, Camp Hill, Seven Hills and Norman Park. It operated from 1912-1926 and carried thousands of hardworking residents from the eastern suburbs.

The project has been three years in the making and was initiated by Coorparoo and Districts Heritage Group, former Councillor for Morningside, Cr Shane Sutton, and funded by the Lord Mayor’s Community Fund.

In 1948, the 664 metres of track bed along Old Cleveland Road became part of the Brisbane City Council Valley to Belmont electric tram route, which remained open until its closure in 1969.

To help preserve the history of the Belmont Tramway, Council has installed information signs at locations of the old stops along Old Cleveland Road.
